The College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, NY

is offering a 33 CREDIT 

Master of Science in Education

with a concentration

in Early Childhood Montessori Education

leading to an

AMS Montessori Credential

and initial or professional

NY State Certification in Early Childhood (birth-second grade)

New York State has mandated new prequisites guidelines for entrance to all graduate teaching programs.
Applicants to the CNR program must have a 3.0 GPA
Applicants must have a review of college transcripts for NYS requirement of 30 credits in liberal arts.
 Applicants must have a passing score on the GRE or MAT.

Enrollment is available to current CME|NY Early Childhood Montessori applicants 

as well as graduates of the CME|NY (CMTE/NY) Early Childhood or Infant and Toddler course from 2013 onward.
Students attend the CME|NY Early Childhood or Infant and Toddler course, and recieve 18 credits for that program. Then students complete CNR courses for an additional 15 credits. 

CNR courses are held on-site and on-line.

Now that more school districts and independent schools require head teachers to hold a Master’s Degree in Education 
as well as a state teaching license,
we hope you’ll take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

Program Length: 1 year and 1 summer June - August 

Course Delivery: 

A combination of on-site classes during the summers and hybrid classes during the school year as well as a practicum (student teaching) at your own school.


Upon completion of academic hours, all coursework, and passing required New York State exams, students will be awarded the following credentials and certifications:

1) AMS Montessori Teaching Credential

2) Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Montessori Education

3) Initial or professional New York State Certification in Early Childhood (birth-second grade)



Must be submitted prior to registering for any course at CNR. Student loans may be used to cover the costs of the credits for full-time attendance (but not CME|NY tuition and fees) for semesters when a student meets a minimum of 6 credits. Veteran’s Benefits are also available for CNR credits.

Housing arrangements for the CME|NY June-August session are arranged directly through CME|NY.

Cost of Master Program Credits:

This is a 33 credit program, with 18 credits earned for the CME|NY courses and 15 credits from courses through the College of New Rochelle. Tuition for these credits is paid directly to CNR. This is in addition to the costs and fees for the CME|NY courses.  See the CME|NY website tab, "Tuition and Fees."

The College of New Rochelle tuition for the 33 credits for Master's Program @ $484/credit =  $15,972

There is no application fee to CNR, but students are required to pay a $100 deposit to hold their place in the program. This deposit is applied to the tuition due.

To be eligible for NYS certification, students must pass the following New York State tests:

New York State Teacher Certification Exam: Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST)
New York State Teacher Certification Exam: Education All Students Test (EAS)
Content Specialty Test (CST): Multi-Subject Teachers of Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 2)
edTPA: Early Childhood
Plus Workshop: Dignity for All Students Act
and fingerprint clearance

In addition to information learned during the coursework, The College of New Rochelle offers workshops and courses to assist with these tests. 

 To be considered for acceptance, students must submit the CNR Graduate School application. The application can be found at  half way down the page.

Along with an application, please submit the following:

1) Official transcripts from all colleges attended. A minimum 3.0 overall undergraduate GPA is required.
2) GRE or MAT exam.
3) A personal goal statement.
4) Two letters of recommendation of a professional or academic nature.
5) Resume.
6) Immunization proof of MMR, which can be sent via mail, fax, or email from your doctor, current, or previous employer, or any other means possible.

COST: $484.00 per credit payable by check or credit card (MC, VISA, or AMEX only).
