Child-centered, meeting the needs of today's families

Located in the heart of Westchester County in White Plains, New York, on the scenic 70 acre campus of the Burke Rehabilitation Center, the Montessori Children's Center provides year-round child care for children from three months to six years old.

The center offers three separate classrooms designed specifically to meet the developmental, emotional and physical needs of children at different ages:  infants (three months to 18 months old), toddlers (18 months to three years old) and Early Childhood aged children (three to six years old).

The Montessori Children's Center also provides a unique opportunity for observation and interaction for the adult learners in our Montessori teacher training programs.

The Montessori experience

We believe in providing a strong, positive experience for children in their earliest years to establish a foundation for lifelong learning and social interaction. Our carefully planned environments and trained, loving teachers create a happy, nurturing atmosphere.

Based on Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy of deep respect for the individual child, Montessori education rewards learning and promotes high self esteem, self confidence, inner discipline, independence and a strong sense of community and personal responsibility.

The hallmarks of a Montessori classroom include a variety of materials, equipment and activities and furniture appropriate for the interests and abilities of a specific mixed age group. Central to this environment is the teacher, who assists the child in unfolding his or her individual personality.

Nurturing the body – inside and out

The Center provides breakfast, lunch and a snack for the children daily. The nutritionists at the Burke Rehabilitation Center work with us to design healthful, balanced menus to meet the dietary needs of young children. In consideration of those with food allergies, we are a nut-free school.

So that the children can experience the natural world in all seasons, we plan outdoor time daily, weather permitting. We enjoy a secluded garden area for the center’s main playground and an enclosed deck for infants as well as a picturesque colonnade for activities during inclement weather.

Hours of operation

The Montessori Children’s Center provides care for each child for up to nine hours per day, in accordance with New York State guidelines.

The Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Early care is available by special arrangement.
