Dear Friend,
Thank you for your interest in The Center for Montessori Teacher Education/NY. As experienced Montessori teachers and administrators, we certainly understand the challenges faced by adults entering this profession. We also realize how important it is to guide and support schools that are putting Montessori programs into practice.
We are dedicated to these activities in support of our mission:
- preparation of Montessori teachers and administrators, and
- consultation support for Montessori schools, programs and communities
At CMTE/NY, community is a fundamental value and a daily living experience. We make decisions collectively, drawing on the diverse talents of our professional family. We continuously challenge ourselves to improve and enrich our programs--incorporating new technologies, refining our teaching materials and methods, carefully preparing all environments. Regularly, we examine and update our curriculum to reflect new discoveries while preserving the integrity of Montessori pedagogy.
CMTE/NY is unafraid of innovation. We were the first program to offer courses leading to an Infant and Toddler credential, a Montessori School Management credential, and an Elementary II (9-12) credential. These programs, along with our Early Childhood and Elementary I (6-9) and Elementary I-II (6-12) are models for excellence in teacher preparation. Our newest course, in Puerto Rico, prepares public school teachers in their own community to begin transforming educational opportunities on the island.
CMTE/NY appreciates the wisdom of Montessori tradition. The dedication and long tenure of the CMTE/NY faculty ensures continuity and high standards and a "lived" understanding of the transformational power of a Montessori experience.
Whether you work in a public or independent school, our programs will teach you the skills you'll need to work with today's children and their parents. And, besides learning the art of teaching, you'll also get the benefit of personal attention from some of this country's most highly regarded and influential educators.
CMTE/NY has always been passionate about Montessori teaching and we want to share it with you. We invite you to discover the joy and satisfaction of this work--and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives and futures of children worldwide.
With Warmest Regards,
